Commissioning

Separate installation completion from production acceptance.

Commissioning proves that the installed labeller, its interfaces and the agreed product formats work together at the customer site. A useful checklist distinguishes mechanical and electrical completion, dry functional checks, product trials, operator training and the actions needed before routine production.

StageChecksRecord
Installation completeMachine position, levelling, utilities, guards, access, conveyor transfers and cable or air routes.Installation checklist and outstanding interface actions.
Dry functional testControls, direction, sensors, interlocks, emergency stops and coordinated stop/start behaviour.Functional test record completed by competent personnel.
Format setupGuides, reel, web path, label sensor, product sensor, label position, wipe or wrap control and recipe/settings.Initial setup sheet for each agreed format.
Product trialRepresentative containers and labels, first-off sample, repeat samples, stops, restarts and changeover.Approved samples and action list.
HandoverOperator instruction, maintenance boundaries, documents, spare parts, contacts and sign-off.Training and handover record.

Use production-equivalent materials

Commissioning evidence is only as useful as the test materials. Labels should match the intended face material, liner, gap or registration feature, core, web width and unwind direction. Containers should represent the final fill state where weight, flexibility, condensation or closure arrangement affects handling. Record substitutions so they are not mistaken for production approval.

First-off approval

Agree who checks label identity, position, orientation, adhesion, code and barcode before the run continues. Keep the approved sample with the format record where practical.

Stops and restarts

Observe bottles already inside the machine, queued products and any labels already dispensed. The restart sequence should avoid uncontrolled product movement or avoidable label waste.

Changeover

Demonstrate the operator sequence between agreed formats and confirm that reference settings, recipes or change parts are clearly identified.

Open actions

Record each remaining action, its owner, due point and whether it prevents production. Do not hide unresolved interface or sample issues inside a general completion note.

Site acceptance evidence

  • Signed installation and functional checklists.
  • Approved labelled samples linked to the container and label-roll identity.
  • Format settings and changeover records.
  • Training attendance and competence or supervision arrangements.
  • Manuals, drawings, maintenance instructions and spare-parts information supplied for the project.
  • A clear list of exclusions, temporary materials and open actions.

Use the FAT checklist to carry factory evidence forward, the changeover checklist for repeat setup and the training handover guide for operator readiness.

Plan the site acceptance around real formats and interfaces.

Send the final layout, format list, labels, containers and commissioning responsibilities before the agreed site date.
